In my house, training teenagers to take a message has been pretty easy. Getting them to give me the message – not so much. So, my solution is to have everyone in my household write telephone messages in a carbonless message book. That way if they forget to give me the top copy I still have the bottom copy as a back up.
My friend Lisa Henderson, part owner of Impact Visual Communications, told me that she likes this strategy because she can look back and find people’s phone numbers.
One of my mottos is “feeling listless, make a list”. I love lists because they are such great organizational tools and they help me to remember what needs to be done. They give me a place to download my tasks, leaving my mind a little freer to think of other things (like business planning and marketing)!
